When you ask most ministers, rabbis, or priests about the secret of salvation, they will tell you just to believe.
They see it as a way the mind receives salvation or that we are agreeing with the demands of our imagination about God.
Ironically it seems that they do not know what they are talking about or that they just want to sell us something.
Nothing is more phony than believing and pretending that we know. It is a false assumption based on ignorance.
All religions are based on believing. What they lack is the knowledge of what they believe.
