This is a difficult question to wrestle with.
We are told that God is good and loving and compassionate, but the Devil or evil is cruel, harsh and can lead us to pain and misery.
The problem with this view is that it feeds into the idea of duality. It either makes us search for a savior or as victims blame the devil. Neither way leads us into our power or knowledge of the truth.
History is filled with cruel actions, horrible outcomes that began with fear. Wars have killed millions of innocent people and we blame an evil called the devil, but we fail to investigate why God permits them. Why does God allow murder, serial killers, rapists and child abusers?
My feeling is that we have to move beyond the personification of God and Satan as personalities and begin to look at Karma as a more accurate view of life.
We also have to take a deep look within and realize that we are responsible for our life circumstances, even if we believe we are not. To take back our power, this is a must.
Life is beautiful and filled with wonderful experiences. It is possible to transcend pain through deeper inner awareness, but life is also cruel and at times what we would call heartless.
Karma does not appear to take sides in favor of one or the other.
All of us have experienced great joy and pain or cruelty in life, and believing in God or a Devil did not prevent them or explain them.
We can choose to go within and seek peace for ourselves consciously, but that will not stop the heartless cruelty we see in everyday life.
Yes, this is a depressing reality and we should not ignore it’s warning, but we must remember and be careful for we may be judging it through the eyes of our ego.
