I am going to write about the lovers card in the Tarot. It contains a deep conscious mystery and also the goal of awakening. This card is from the Toth or Crowley deck.
In the above image we see pairs of opposites. We see opposites of children and adults. We also see different species of animals.
These images represent duality. They also insinuate the division between our thoughts, emotions and feelings. The man represents thinking, will and the woman the emotional feeling of a relationship. It is the feeling or the longing of completion that draws them together. The desire of oneness begins with relationships.
For those who have found true love this should make sense. When you find the right one it is not a mental or just emotional decision, but a feeling or conscious recognition of a deep bond with another. You want to join or marry and keep that feeling.
These opposites do not have to be male and female, both can be of the same sex, as in our bodies we carry the energy of both the masculine and feminine
The large mysterious figure standing over the true lovers is our higher self. It is robed and the face hidden as we can not easily explain it in terms of this world, still it is the goal of the union or surrender of our thoughts and emotions into our feelings or higher consciousness. It is a solitary figure or experience where no duality exists. We are complete in union with our higher self. There is no desire or longing for another to feel complete.
Duality brings separation and conflict. Through conflict we are destined to find our path back into completion. No experience in our life is useless or without meaning. Everything, every experience or person is our teacher. The question is do we listen?
To be whole or complete is to be ONE without desire. In love we can stand alone, complete and without desire because we are consciously full again.
